COVID-19 STATUS: The Shelter does not currently provide overnight housing. Individuals and families are housed in local hotels. During this time, the Shelter is providing and delivering daily dinner meals, breakfasts/snacks, and hygiene products to hotels.

The Culpeper Winter Heat Shelter operates as a low barrier warming shelter from late-November to late-March annually serving homeless adults. It is open nightly from 5:30 PM to 7:00 AM. Registration is first-come first-served. Dinner, Breakfast, and a bag lunch are provided. Participation in any religious activity is offered, but not required. Shelter “guests” should be sober and not under the influence of illegal drugs to be admitted. Showers, personal laundry services and other assistance is provided. Pets and weapons are prohibited.  The facility is unable to accommodate adults who are significantly physically disabled. Shelter supervisors and a case worker are available to assist volunteers and shelter guests.

Our initial mission is to provide a safe and warm place for homeless adults to sleep during the winter months. Our secondary goal is to help shelter guests connect with other service providers to assist with job applications, housing programs, medical services and more.

Guiding Philosophy: Everybody needs a helping hand at some point. If you’re not in need of a hand right now, consider lending one to someone who does!
